

Born April 5, 1936 in Clinton, Iowa to Everett Richard and Marian Leone (Metzger) Scherich, she married Jerome Spencer “Jerry” Aune on April 12, 1958 in Jackson, Michigan. He died November 2, 2010 in Pekin.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dr. Craig Jerome Aune on August 9, 1997 in rural Morton and two sisters, Mary Malpass and Phyllis Graham.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Nancy Aune of Morton; four grandchildren, Michael (Vanessa) Johnson of Oak Park, Emily (Brendan) Heneghan of Naperville, Cameron (Brittany) Aune of La Grange Park and Shannon (Jake Wilson) Aune of Vancouver, Washington; five great-grandchildren, Alistair Johnson, Audrey Johnson, Gavin Heneghan, Logan Heneghan and Evelyn Heneghan.
A graduate of Jackson Junior College and Michigan State University, Barb was a second grade teacher at C.B. Smith Primary School for 35 years with Pekin Public Schools District 108.
Barb enjoyed playing Bridge and golfing for many years. She was a past board member with the Pekin Friends of Channel 47 - WTVP and helped fundraise with the Pekin Boys and Girls Club. She was a past-president of the former Women’s GOP Club in Pekin and had been a member of the American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pekin Emblem Club, Pekin Women of the Moose and Sunset Hills Golf Club.
Barb was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Manito and a former member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Havana.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Father Phillip Boeve and Pastor Nicole Cox will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Cremation has been accorded and she will be interred in the rose garden at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, Michigan.
