Barbara J Garland

Born February 16, 1937 in Alton to Wilbur W. and Leta (Custer) Shaw, she was one of fourteen children. She married Samuel E. Garland on August 19, 1956 in Peoria. He died on January 13, 2013 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl D. (William) Lewis of Murray, KY and Janice R. Garland of East Peoria; five grandchildren, Vanessa (Chris) Deneen of Omaha, NE, Elijah Lewis of Murray, KY, Chynna Lewis of Paducah, KY, Kristina (Jason) Manning of Peoria and Brittany Garland of East Peoria and six great-grandchildren.

Barbara was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, crafting, baking and especially gardening. She also enjoyed sharing her garden produce with others.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin, where she taught Sunday school and was assistant Sunday school superintendent. She also took pride in creating the bulletin boards for the Sunday school department.

Her memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Michael K. Roberts will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Cremation has been accorded.
