

Born December 21, 1935 in Pekin to Avon Warren and Elsie Jane (Deakin) Johnson, she married Glenn Norman Bonk on July 1, 1956 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are her two sons, Steven D. (Vicki) Bonk of Rantoul, Matthew W. Bonk (and Sandra) of Goldsborough, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Sarah (Daryl) Heiser of Georgia, Rachel L. Wendel of Garner, North Carolina, Joshua S. (Christa) Bonk of Champaign and Amber L. Bonk of North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Zayne (Samantha) Heiser, Asya (Preston) Sweatman, Roman Heiser, Elliot Bonk, and Arwen Bonk; one nephew, David Johnson and two nieces, Sarah “Sally” Knobeloch and Paula Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, A. Warren Johnson; and one nephew, Mark Johnson.
Betty was the manager and bookkeeper at Mr. K’s grocery store for 14 years. Outside of work, faith was very important to Betty. She was a Bible teacher, taught an adult ladies’ Bible class, home Bible study and youth groups. She loved to garden, especially her Day Lilies. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for friends and family, and singing.
She was a member of the Paris Avenue Church of Christ in Peoria.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory. Rick Liggin will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral Home.
