Born February 14, 1941 in Metamora to Mark and Leota (Bryant) Schertz, she married James H. Bowen on June 30, 1962 in East Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband on February 22, 2000; and 1 brother, Billy Schertz.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Barbara (Scot) Arends of East Peoria; 1 son, Gary (Lisa) Bowen of Chillicothe; and 5 grandchildren.
A homemaker, Betty attended Dayton Avenue Baptist Church in Peoria.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, shopping, gospel music, and was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Rev. Sonny Mooney will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Fon du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
