

Born February 25, 1933 in Royalton to John Everette and Lydia Lucy (Morgan) Adkins, he married Beverly A. Swearingen on October 31, 1953 in Royalton. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Barry (Diane) Adkins of Hanna City and Brian (Deb) Adkins of Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter, Beth (Lee) Randall of Washington; five granddaughters, Shannon (Don) Danley of Hanna City, Amanda (Bob) Jordan of Farmington, Erin (Andrew) Balek of Hermosa Beach, California, Brittany (Don) Taylor of Zion and Madysun Adkins of Columbia, South Carolina.
His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.
Billy worked for Keystone Steel and Wire Company for 39 years, last working in the nail mill, and retiring in 1995. After retiring, he worked for Laidlaw Bus Company for several years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pekin, where he participated in the Berean Sunday School class and the Dartball League. He also worked in the bus ministry, sang in the choir and was an usher.
Billy loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, garden and travel. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2720 in Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor Mark D. Friday and John Daniels will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2008at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Hanna City.
