Also surviving are his girlfriend, Kerry-Anne Pearce of Germantown Hills, and her children, Samuel and Laci.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Mary Englebright.
Brett was a 2005 graduate of Pekin Community High School.
At the young age of 3, Brett first stepped foot on the ice. He participated with Pekin Little Stars Hockey, Pekin Youth Hockey, and later Triple A Hockey with the Chicago Chill and Chicago Mission. He played forward for the Peoria Mustangs until being called up to the Traverse City (Traverse City, Michigan) North Stars of the Junior A North American Hockey League for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. He played for the Kenai River Brown Bears (Soldotna, Alaska) for the 2007-08 season and for Nichols College (Dudley, Massachusetts) NCAA-III for the 2008-09 season, playing until he suffered a major concussion. Unable to return to the ice as a beast he once was, his passion for the sport pulled him back to the ice as a mentor, coach, and official. Brett influenced many players throughout the years in Pekin Little Stars Hockey, Pekin Amateur Hockey, and Pekin Dragon Hockey.
Brett was an advisor for MCN Sports Advising in Peoria. Most recently, Brett and Mike Olson were gathering information, articles, and photos of the history of Central Illinois hockey for a future publication.
He was a member of the Pekin Hockey Alumni, Pekin Moose Family Center #916, and The Crossing Church in Mount Sterling.
Brett was a fan of the St. Louis Blues, Chicago Cubs, and the Peoria Rivermen. He enjoyed fishing and golf.
