

Born April 15, 1928 in Delavan to Jessie Elmer and Laura Edith (Parkins) Sackett, he married Velda Ruth Lock on October 5, 1946 in Pekin. She died March 13, 2004 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Gail D. Sackett on July 27, 1993 in Peoria and Robert Lee Sackett on October 15, 1996 in Pekin; two brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda Jane (Mike) Roose of Mansfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Bradley D. Sackett, Danny E. (RaNae) Sackett, Shannon J. Force, all of Pekin and Shawn O. (Micky) Mandrell of Delavan and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves one niece, Barb Mibbs, with whom he made his home.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Elmer worked as a millwright in both Illinois and Wisconsin for 17 years, retiring in 1992. He previously worked 9 years for R.A. Cullinan & Sons and out of Carpenters Local 644.
He was a life member of the Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 in Pekin. Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also was an avid bowler. He loved his great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Steven M. Rowell, Sr. and Rev. Lloyd Bradshaw will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
