Born May 8, 1936 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Ejnar and Helen (Johnson) Sorensen, she married Robert Fred Guenther on June 19, 1966 in Ellendale, Minnesota. He died October 18, 2013 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one infant brother.
Surviving are two sons, Gregg (Traci) Guenther of Pekin and Michael (Angela) Guenther of Grayslake; one daughter, Kristen (Scott) Adams of Chester, England; five grandchildren, Brendan, Abigail, Savannah, Nathan and Graci and one brother, Floyd (Judy) Davidson of Tower, Minnesota.
Carol started her teaching career in Minnesota where she worked for six years before moving to Pekin to start her new life with Bob. She taught in Pekin for 17 years, primarily in the Learning Center at Sunset Elementary and Edison Junior High.
Following retirement she went to work part time at Pekin Hospital Women’s League and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and AAUW.
Carol loved to read, spend time with her games group and traveling, especially her trips to Mexico.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 18th, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin. Pastor Stephen Barnes will officiate. Inurnment will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or Edison Jr. High in memory of Carol Guenther.
