Carolyn R Schaefer

Born May 30, 1925 in Chillicothe to Glenn Beard and Zoeanna Ruth (Johnson) Smith, she married Raymond William Schaefer on September 2, 1950 in Pekin. He died January 10, 2008 in Morton. She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Rodney Ropp on April 18, 2013 in Tremont.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra Penning of Morton, Vicki (Fred) Albright of Pekin; one son, Matthew (Anita) Schaefer of St. Charles; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Philip) Cooper of Goodfield, Nicole (Johnny) Simkins of Tremont, Abby (Derek) Whittington of Bloomington, Adam (Jamie) Schaefer of Grayslake, Gretchen Ewer of East Peoria, Nikolas Schaefer of St. Charles, Claire Schaefer of St. Charles, Scott (Janice) Penning of Tremont; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nilene Junker of Pickens, Mississippi.

Carolyn had worked for Darrell Steele Realty in Pekin as an agent. She later worked as a secretary for Executive House Realty for 2 years and then as secretary for the Pekin Board of Realtors for 2 ½ years, retiring in 1984.

She had been a member of Victoria Shrine #83, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem where she held many different offices. She also had been a member and Past President of the Creve Coeur American Legion Post 1234 Auxiliary.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Carolyn enjoyed needlework and fishing.

Her memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday February 17, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Philip Cooper will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.
