

She was born on April 24, 1940 in Alabama, a daughter of Ossie Clyde and Hattie Izzetta (Dennis) Mitchell. She married Lewis R. Lightbody on March 19, 1977 in Pekin. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2013.
Carrie was also preceded by her parents; one daughter, Joni Gibson; three sisters, Fran Johnson, Mary Evelyn Mitchell and Maragret Love; and one brother; Thomas Edward Mitchell Sr.
She is survived by her seven children, Kay Tooley of Valparaiso, Indiana, Linda Lopez of South Pekin, Lewis (Nelda) Lightbody of South Pekin, Frank Gibson of Missouri, Harold Eugene (Juanita) Gibson of Pekin, Gregory Gibson of Pekin, and Kimberly (Mark) Craig of Pekin; one sister, Audrey Love of Peoria Heights; one brother, Clyde Austin Percy Mitchell of Florida; sixteen grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
Carrie worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in production for many years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. Carrie volunteered as a teacher at Bethel Baptist School for 10 years. She enjoyed volunteering for the Midwest Food Bank Pantry and delivering food to Pekin Township. Carrie will also be remembered as caring and loved babysitter for the over 100 children that she cared for over the years.
Cremation rites have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A celebration of life will be held on a later date.
