

Born January 10, 1951 in Van, West Virginia to Ford S. and Mable S. (Scott) Dickens, he married Ashley Suzanne Riley on December 22, 1972 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala, Florida. She survives.
Also surviving are three sisters, Martha Leone Wade of High Point, North Carolina, Janet (Bob) Core of Orlando, Florida and Mary Dickens of Seth, West Virginia and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved pet Papillon, Genevieve S. Dickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Louis G. Dickens.
He had served in the Florida National Guard.
Charles last worked in 2006 as a deputy sheriff for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in Marion County, Florida, where he was a bailiff at the Marion County Judicial Center. He previously had worked as a patrolman Ocala Police Department in Ocala, Florida.
Charles was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin and Knights of Columbus 5960 in Ocala, Florida.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of both the Lions Club and Moose Lodge in Ocala, Florida. Charles was very family oriented and formerly loved to play golf and bowl.
His funeral Mass will be at noon Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will be the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
