Born October 24, 1938 in Mason City to Sherman E. and Louvada (Thompson) Forbis, he married Julia Rosetta Nall on August 9, 1964 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Chris (Donna) Forbis of Pekin; three grandchildren, Brandon Forbis, Dakota Forbis, and Richard Forbis, all of Pekin; one brother, Russell (Sharon) Forbis of South Pekin; one sister, Laverne (Terry) Brown of Pekin; and sister-in-law, Cathy Forbis of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Forbis.
Chuck was, first and foremost, a devoted family man. The happiest years of his life were the 49 he spent married to his beloved “Judy”, and then later when Chris was born. Most weekends he and Julie could be found wherever Chris and his bandmates were playing, beaming with pride as Chris’ number one fans. When grandchildren came into his life, they became more like additional sons to him, and he would be at every school function and extra-curricular activity. He was as devoted and loyal to his friends, as well, and it speaks volumes to know that he had known many of his closest friends for decades.
Chuck’s career life started early, when he left school to help support his mother and siblings. He later joined the US Army, and upon discharge returned to Pekin, where he got a job at Corn Products. By the time he retired 36 years later, the company had changed names, and he had moved from “just a guy on the line” to a supervisory role as Wet Starch Coordinator.
Faith was just as, if not more important to Chuck, as family, friends and career. He was a long-time member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin, where he was a former member of the church choir.
In his leisure time, Chuck was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved to cook, and was famous in family circles for his chicken and noodles.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Timothy Najpaver will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 2105 Sheridan Road, Pekin, IL 61554 or to Illinois CancerCare Foundation, 8940 North Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615.
