

Born January 13, 1937 in Elkville to Nobel and Alice (Ihle) Irvin, he married Dorothy Ione Sullivan on October 18, 1959 in Washington, D.C. She died on September 11, 1992 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are one daughter, Katherine (Joe) Schrader of San Jose; two sons, David (Jana) Irvin of South Pekin and John (Colleen) Irvin of Bradley; four grandkids, Andy Beach of East Peoria, Alexandria (Brock) Evans of Lincoln, Austin Irvin of East Peoria and Austin Schrader of Champaign and two great-grandkids, Natalie and Deklan. He also leaves his partner in life, Jo Carver.
He was a United States Navy veteran.
Charles worked in the tool room for Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1994 with 30 years of service.
He will be remembered as a gentle man that cared very deeply for his family, his friends and his community. He had a great sense of humor and his quick wit brought a smile to many.
His funeral will be at 6 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dwight E. Borden will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Navy.
