Charles L Snyder

PEORIA ~ Charles Leroy Snyder, 76, of 142 Cotillion Lane, North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Emeritus Senior Living of Fort Myers.  He was formerly of Peoria.

Born May 3, 1935 in Erie, IL to Charles Calvin and Vida May (Powers) Snyder, he married Beverly Ann Wright Driscoll on July 6, 1974 in Fort McCoy, WI.  She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mae Jo LaPlanta, Rita (Phillip) Slusser and Kathleen (John) Collis, both of Kewanee; three step-sons, Michael Driscoll, Glenn Driscoll, both of Clyde, TX and Scott (Pam) Driscoll of Gilbert, AZ; three step-daughters, Denise Woody of Machesne Park, IL, Connie (Greg) Smith of Brooklyn Park, MN and Colleen Smith of Dunedin, FL; twenty-two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five half-brothers and five half-sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-daughter, Kathleen Sue Duda.

Chuck served in the Army, Naval Reserves, active duty Air Force for 14 years and retired from the Army Reserves.   He also was a Civil Service Retiree.   Chuck was proud of his military service and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in North Fort Myers.

A former member of Creve Coeur Christian Church, he was a member of the Serendipity Fellowship in North Fort Myers.  He enjoyed playing cards, Dominos and shuffleboard.  He also enjoyed riding bikes.

His graveside funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.  The Rev. John E. Plunkett will officiate.  There will be no visitation.  Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, with military rites accorded by United States Air Force and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
