

Born February 26, 1935 in Mason City, he was the son of Virtus and Gertrude (Spencer) Parr. His parents preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Winifred Fredricks, Allice Booth and Lucille Dupage.
Surviving are one son, Daniel L. (Holly) Parr of Pekin; four daughters, Cathleen (Steve) Orr of Buffalo, Wyoming, Stephanie (Gary) Barth of Lakeview, Arkansas, Patricia Parr of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Judith (William) Johnson of Pekin; six grandchildren, Daniel (Lauren) Parr, IV of Greendale, Wisconsin, Logan Parr of Pekin, Lauren (Jesi) James of Manito, Oliver (Daniel) Barth-Carson of Peoria, Andrew Johnson of Pekin, Ashley (Matthew Avery) Johnson of Bartonville and two great-grandchildren, Daniel L. “Levi” Parr, V and Wrenley Avery. His marriage to Loretta Jean Combs for 23 years and later to Kathleen McKenna for 13 years were both instrumental to his success in life.
A 1957 graduate of Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology. He then graduated in 1962 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. Dan completed his residency at Decatur and Macon County Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.
He was drafted into the Navy and served in the United States Air Force as Captain and a Flight Surgeon for the Air Defense Squadron at Loring Air Force Base in Caribou, Maine from 1963 to 1965. He also had attended the School of Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio and had completed a Residency in Family Practice at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.
Following his military service Dr. Parr established his private practice in Tremont in 1965. His practice later moved to Pekin and had privileges at Pekin Hospital, OSF St. Francis Medical Center and Methodist Medical Center. In retirement, he worked in the Emergency Department at Pekin Hospital and at Caterpillar, Inc. doing wellness physicals.
Dr. Parr enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered as a man of exceptional moral character, who loved science and truly cared about people. He loved animals and always had a great interest in airplanes and flying.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Tom Pisano will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Tremont, with military rites accorded by the United States Air Force and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
