

Born May 11, 1931 in Clinton to Harry Edward and Laura Flavia (Elliston) Horrick, she married Charles Jerrold “Chuck” Jeffrey on June 3, 1949 in Marion, Iowa. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Jeri (Bruce) Johnson of Springfield, Linda (Don) Harris and Joy (Jim) Schramm, both of Pekin; nine grandchildren, Alicia Fitzgerald of Chicago, Elizabeth Zorn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jessica Johnson and Jeff Johnson, both of Springfield, Natalie Filarski, Josh Harris, Beau Schramm, Chase Schramm, and JoElle Schramm, all of Pekin; and nine great-grandchildren, Allyssa, Abbi, Max, Lauren, Tyler, Bridget, Janelle, Isaac, and Paige.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harry “Joe” Horrick; and her step-father, Charles Huddleston, who helped raise her.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin.
Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker and cared deeply for her family. She was always the first person to be called for support and was the central figure in all of her family’s lives. She was active in her church and would help whenever asked. As a mother, she was a great teacher to her family and loved teaching Sunday school for many years. She also helped for several years with the Pekin Hospital League. Darlene was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles with her husband, Chuck.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Sam Gibb will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Guidelines regarding social distancing and the wearing of masks will be followed. Inurnment will follow the service at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
