

Born May 26, 1949 in Hinton, West Virginia to Russell Skaggs and Dorothy Virginia (Toungett) Thompson, he married Sue Ellen Wyman on February 7, 1969 in Hannibal, Missouri. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy (Rodney) Hany of Marquette Heights; one son, Darrell Lee (Kim) Thompson of Pekin; ten grandchildren, Alexandra Thompson, Melissa Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Cassandra (Thomas) Clawson, Jon (Jessica) Burhans, Matthew (Tawny) Hany, Jeri Hany, Daymon Hany, Richard Smith, and Dakota Hany; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Russell “Rusty” (Shirley) Thompson of Ethridge, Tennessee; four sisters, Dorothy Kay Strickler of Peoria, Virginia “Jenny” Whitton of Lorton, Virginia, Debbie (Jim) Feehan of Washington, and Sue Ellen (Roger) McCoy of Trivoli. He also leaves behind many other foster grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He had served in the United States Army.
Darrell had worked as a ceramic tile installer through Bricklayers Local #6 for many years. Previously, he was a truck driver through Teamsters Local #627 in Peoria.
Darrell enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping, but most of all, he loved the time spent with his family and grandchildren.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Bruce Bolin Ghitalla will officiate. Visitation will ebe from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
