

PEKIN ~ David Arthur Nelson, 66, of 1436 Park Avenue, passed away at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at his residence. Born March 15, 1940 in Pekin to Dr. Charles A. and Karin (Carston) Nelson, he married Brenda A. Durham on September 27, 1990 in Pekin. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Kyle D. Nelson of Pekin and one brother, Dr. John C. Nelson of Peoria. His parents preceded him in death. A 1962 graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, he received his Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from Bradley University in 1976. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. David retired in 1998 as Director of Administrative Services for the Tazewell County Board, a position he held for 14 years. He previously taught for four years at Limestone Community High School, where he was presently substitute teaching. He also served as the former personnel director at Bergner's in Sheridan Village; as vice-president of shared services at the Wyoming Hospital Association in Cheyenne, Wyoming and as director of personnel and public relations for Magic Valley Regional Medical Center at Twin Falls, Idaho. Dave served for 8 years as a commissioner for the Pekin Park District. He was a member of the American Society of Hospital Personnel Administrators. He also was a founding member of the State of Illinois County Administrators Organization. He enjoyed flying model airplanes and was a member of the Pekin R/C Club. He was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed traveling. He was a history buff. Dave was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. He served the church as a member of the finance committee and as an usher. He was a devoted husband and father. A service celebrating David's life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at the church. Cremation will be accorded. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 503 North 4th Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
