He was born July 11, 1944 in Peoria to James A. and Elvina L. (Sandwald) Sayers. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Sayers.
Surviving are one brother, Mike (Annette) Sayers of East Peoria; one nephew, Darren Sayers; one niece, Michelle Rose; and his friend, Charles Ogden.
David was a member of the United Methodist Church in Groveland.
He had worked in the warehouse at Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1995.
David had served in the United States Army.
His graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Sangamon County Inter Veterans Detail. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
