He was born on February 13, 1963, in Danville, the son of Max L. and Donna L. (Baurer) Yergler. He married Karen L. Geiger on June 9, 1984.
Dave was a quiet hero to many. He was a loyal brother, a caring son, a faithful husband, an affectionate father, a doting Opa, and a good friend. He could fix anything, but his preferred projects were cars and trucks. He used his skills to rescue his daughters, family, and many friends from all sorts of scrapes and mishaps.
He also had a deep appreciation for God's creation, which he experienced most often through hunting, fishing, taking walks, and riding his motorcycle. He was a reliable authority on local birds and trees, often consulted by his grandchildren about leaves and feathers. He did his best to pass on his love for nature to the next generation, patiently bearing with clomping boots and complaints of cold feet and boredom from his young daughters while checking his traps or rebaiting hooks.
Dave lived a life of steady faithfulness. His first loyalty was to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He recently reflected that the three things that mattered most were faith, glorifying God, and making disciples. He was awed and confounded by a grace big enough to call him holy, chosen, and loved (Colossians 3:12). He faithfully and sacrificially loved his wife of almost 41 years until her passing, giving himself up for her as he was instructed in Ephesians 5. He was also a faithful and diligent worker, never shirking a responsibility at home, in the office, at church, in the field, or in the shop (Colossians 3:23). He instilled the value of hard work into his daughters by asking them to help with raking leaves, shoveling snow, tending the garden, and holding the flashlight or handing him tools while he worked on cars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen, and his father, Max.
Dave is survived by his four daughters, Genae (Eric) Andris of Dunlap, Micah (Keith) Pitner of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Emalee (Joshua) Mills of San Diego, California, and Makenna Yergler of Raleigh, North Carolina; adored grandchildren, Joelle Andris, Weston Andris, Ember Andris, Evelyn Pitner, Milo Pitner, Zane Mills, Ian Mills, Silas Mills, and Calvin Mills; mother, Donna L. Yergler of Morton; sister, Julie (Mark) Gasick of Coatesville, Indiana; and brothers, Daren (Yuki) Yergler of Tremont and Derek (Bo Youn) Yergler of Eugene, Oregon.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1985 and celebrated his 25th anniversary as a Caterpillar employee earlier this year. He was a member of Bethany Community Church in Washington.
Dave's daughters will remember him as a shield and refuge with a smile that made them feel seen and loved. He made their heavenly Father's unending, unconditional love a little easier to grasp. The world feels a little darker without him.
David's visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Bethany Community Church in Washington. His funeral will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday at the church. Pastor Daniel Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora.
