

Born December 21, 1944 in Pekin to Gilbert and Viola (Kee) Atterberry, he married Tammy Bearden July 27, 1993. She survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Delbert Atterberry Jr. and David (Ailene) Atterberry, both of Pekin, Joe (Heather) Bennett of Havana, Doug Bennett of Peoria and Cory (Kara) Atterberry Fort Hood, Texas; three daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Jewell of Spring City Tennessee, Angel (Matt) Atkins of Hopedale and Towanda (Freddie) Nixon of Pekin; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Kee; two sisters, Sharlene (Carl) Butterfield, Cindy (George) Ohnemus and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ricky Bennett.
Delbert could build or fix anything and he often made his own inventions for his family to use, including an apple juicer from a washing machine. He also built recumbent bicycles and was an avid cyclist himself. Delbert had pledged to try to ride 1,000 miles for Jesus. Delbert was described as generous man who would open his home to anyone. Most important to Delbert was his faith. He would ask his family if they knew Jesus and dedicated much of his life to evangelizing.
His memorial visitation will be held Friday, December 11, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Guidelines regarding social distancing and wearing of masks will be followed.
