Donald "Don" Dean Alexander

Born October 21, 1931 in Pekin to William Robert and Helen Marie (Altig) Alexander, he married Marilyn Joan Garber on June 13, 1970 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Cathy (Jim) Rader of Mackinaw; two sons, Steve (Diane) Garner of Mesa, Arizona and Rick Lee (Cindy) Alexander of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Kirt (Paige) Gibbs, Kristina (Joey) Nizzia, Kimberly (Shawn) Taylor, Shaine (Brady) Bushnell, Heather Garner, Johanna (Nick Ball) Garner, Steven (Ashley) Garner, Jr. and Kylee Margaret Alexander; 16 great-grandchildren, Alexis (Darren Raby) Rader, Jason Weaver, Ian Gibbs, Natalie Gibbs, Zoe Nizzia, Savannah Nizzia, Connor Taylor, Sophia Taylor, Josie Taylor, Eden Bushnell, Avery Bushnell, Drew Bushnell, Melissa Garner, Jackson Garner, Cayden Garner and Ethan Ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Garner and one sister, Marlene Maquet.

Don worked as an accountant at Keystone Wire & Steel Co. in Bartonville for 31 years before retiring in 1981. Following retirement, he went to work at Machinery Transport in Morton for ten years.

He was a former board member of Tazewell Animal Protective Society (TAPS) and Pekin Jaycees.

An avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Bulls and Pekin Chinks Basketball. Don also enjoyed dogs and working in his yard.

Don was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin, where he had served as treasurer for 42 years and 50 years as an usher.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin. Pastor Simeon D. Raddatz will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

The family has entrusted arrangements with Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
