Born November 1, 1955 in Peoria, he was the son of Walter Junior and Elizabeth J. (Papcan) Atherton. His parents preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by one niece.
Surviving are one brother, Danny (Beverly) Atherton of Eureka; three step-brothers, Lance Riviere of Pekin, Clay (Sue) Riviere of Clermont, Florida and Paul (Lee) Riviere of Forest City; one step-sister, Michele (Bob) Small of Pekin and several nieces and nephews.
Donald worked as a land surveyor with his friend, Carl Gibbs. He previously had worked for Kmart in their lumber sales.
He was an avid woodworker and made beautiful plates, bowls and ink pens. He also loved to shoot guns.
No services or visitation are planned. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
