Donald L. “Donnie” Herron, 38, of Pekin, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Unity Point \ Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. He was born on June 16, 1977 in Streator, Illinois to Donald K. and Carolyn (Nauman) Herron. He married Sarah Carter on June 6, 2012 in Ft. Myers, Florida. She survives. He is also survived by his parents of Glasford, Illinois; three children, Tyler and Hannah Herron both of Pekin, Illinois, Darrell Quast of Eureka, Illinois; three step-sons, Matthew McGownd, Luke and Parker Meyer all of Pekin, Illinois. He has one sister, Martha Fisher and one nephew, Alex Ferguson both of Glasford, Illinois. Donnie has several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Donnie was a Registered Nurse, Paramedic and Supervisor at AMT in Peoria working there the last 20 years. He also was a Medical Surgical Nurse and 2nd Lieutenant of the 801st combat surgical hospital, alpha company detachment classified 66-H. He had a compassion for helping people and saving lives. He was an excellent nurse. Donnie was a wonderful educator and a very compassionate and loving individual to his family and all that he met. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Davison Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin, Illinois. Battalion Chaplain, Captain Cesar Pajarillo will officiate. A visitation will be Wednesday from 4 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford, Illinois. Memorials for Donnie may be made to the Donnie Herron Memorial Fund at the Heritage Bank in Trivoli, Illinois for an educational fund for his children. You may create an online condolence at

I am so very sorry for the loss of your loved one and our friend. He was a great man and a fabulous supervisor. He showed wonderful compassion to his patients, he was easy to talk to if we had an issue at work and he always made us laugh and smile. We have all lost one of the best! Donnie you saved my life in Back of an ambulance one day when I was having a severe seizure you are loved and missed by so many there are so many people alive today because of you. you are an amazing person watch over us all. I remember you holding my hand and telling me that it was going to be okay because I remember having a lot of other medical problems at that given moment - on top of already having cerebral palsy I'm only 27 years old. At the time I was 26 I will never forget that moment thank you for your service my prayers and love are sent to the family you will never be forgotten I come from a firefighter paramedic family I've been around firefighters and paramedics my whole life and you are one paramedic that stands out again huge hugs to the family
