

Born November 12, 1928 in Pekin to Leslie Parke and Bernice A. (Brown) Hasty, he married Rose Marie Barresi on June 13, 1953 in Pekin.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Diana Byrd of Margate, Florida; and one granddaughter, Brittany Byrd of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
His parents, one son (Timothy Hasty), and two brothers (Gerald Hasty and Frank Hasty) preceded him in death.
A United States Army veteran of World War II, he served from September 4, 1946 to December 6, 1947. He was a paratrooper.
Don worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 15 years, retiring as a material control foreman in East Peoria. Previously, he worked at American Distilling Company in Pekin, National Distillery and Hiram Walker, both in Peoria.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507, William Schaefer American Legion Post #44, and the Tazewell County Genealogical Society, all in Pekin. Don was a life member of the Chicago Cubs Fan Club.
His funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2008at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Monsignor Charles Beebe, Father Patrick Fixsen, Father George Remm, and Father Tom Henseler will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army.
