

Born January 15, 1914 in Pekin to Albert C. and Wilma (Fluegel) Zimmerman, he married Virginia M. Sheppard on August 25, 1940 in Columbia, Missouri. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Brian M. Zimmerman of Charlotte, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Carie Zimmerman of Indian Trail, North Carolina, Julie (Tim) Alexander of Loudon, Tennessee, Dara (Randy) Baker of Emden, and Tyson (Mercedes) Walters and Garyn Walters, both of Delavan; and four great-grandchildren, Lilly Zimmerman, Jordan Alexander, Cole Baker, and Brody Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Lynn Walters), and one brother (Noel Zimmerman).

Don worked for Commonwealth Edison for 36 years, retiring in 1976 as a boiler operator at the Powertown Station in Pekin.
He was life-long member of First Christian Church in Pekin, where he was a former deacon and elder. He was a life and 61 year member of Empire Lodge #126 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Pekin, member and past treasurer of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #1361, and member and past president of the Powerton Playboys Retiree Club. He also was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1271 in Pekin and was an associate member of the Pekin YWCA, where he was past president of Club 55. He had been a member of the Senior Bowling League and Pekin Senior Golf League.
Active in Boy Scouts of America for many years, Don was a member of the W.D. Boyce Council where he had served as assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, cub master, explorer advisor, and district explorer advisor. He received the Scouters Key and Silver Beaver Award, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006at the First Christian Church in Pekin. The Rev. Steve Bridwell will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where Masonic rites will be accorded at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the funeral Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
