Dorothy Alice Hood

Dorothy A Hood, 102, of Morton, passed away peacefully at 8:12 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2021 at her home in Morton.

Born on September 23, 1918, in Wacton, Norfolk, England to Ernest Albert and Mildred Pretoria (Winslade) Peck, she married Wayne F. Hood on September 19, 1944, in Norfolk, England. He died May 12, 1978.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Craig Hood; one granddaughter, Paige Torrence; one brother, Theodore “Teddy” (Jean) Peck; one sister, Ruth Watling; one nephew, Andre and one niece, Jane Morse.

Surviving are by one son, Wayne (Barbara) Hood of Pekin; one daughter, Susan Hood of Morton; one grandson, Lynn Michael Pauli of Peoria; one granddaughter-in-law, Paige Hood of East Peoria; one grandson-in-law, Dave Torrence of San Diego; one great grandson, David J Torrence of San Diego; three great granddaughters, Chloe J. Torrence of San Diego, Taylor A. Hood and Tori A. Hood of East Peoria. Dorothy was a Registered Nurse and had a long and varied career in the field of nursing, most notable at the Mitchell Sanitarium (on 15 acres of what is now a corner of Forest Park Nature Center) and at St. Francis Medical Center, both in Peoria. She also served as a House Parent in the Morgan Washington Home for Girls in Bloomington and in a Girls Group Home setting for The Children’s Home in Peoria for a time.

She loved to spend time with her family, was an avid reader, and enjoyed the Chicago sports, including the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Black Hawks. She also enjoyed listening to music.

She was a member of The Church of England.

A Private graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Oakland Illinois.
