Dr. William L. Harris left us unexpectedly the afternoon of Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Without a doubt, we rejoice in knowing he was welcomed into the arms of our Lord. Bill was the son of the late Dr. Robert & Odessa Harris of Peoria. He married the love of his life, Kimberly McCoy, on July 12, 1993 at Glasford Baptist Church. She survives. Also surviving are six children; Zachary (Layne) Harris of Coralville, Iowa, Meghan (Gokhan) Beler of Peoria, Tyler Harris of Peoria, Kyle ( Amy) Harris of Aurora, Colorado, Natalee Roseboom of Glasford and Kristine (Nathan) Clark of Madison, Alabama and seven grandchildren, Rowan and Ainsley Harris, Kaleb, Gabriel, Isabella and Eli Clark and Georgia DeMaster, brothers Mike Harris of Chicago, Scott (Emily) Harris of Metamora & sisters Barb (Bruce) Bietz and Kathy Harris of Mapleton, brother and sister- in- law Kevin and Cindie McCoy and mother- in- law Betty McCoy all of Glasford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father- in –law, Bill McCoy and brother- in -law Chris McCoy. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Glasford Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and was on the Missions Team. Bill attended and played football at Washington University in St. Louis, MO his freshman and sophomore year. He transferred to and graduated from Illinois State University with high honors in 1974 and the University of Illinois at Chicago with his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1978. He started practicing dentistry in 1978 and took over his dad’s practice on August 4, 1978 in the Lehman Building in downtown Peoria. He moved his practice to North Street and bought out retiring dentist Dr. Bell and Dr. Burell opening his second floor office on Knoxville Ave. To accommodate his elderly and disabled patients, he moved directly across the street to an office on street level. He was bought out by Heartland Dental Care in 1997 and tried retirement for a while in 2011. That didn’t work out well with him, so he opened his own practice again in Mt Hawley Plaza in 2013. At age 66 he sold to Elite Dental Partners in January 2019 and worked for them the past five months to get his patients adjusted to the new dentists as he planned to retire for good July 15, 2019. Just shy of 41 years. Bills favorite place to go was their vacation home in Marco Island, Florida. He loved everything about it. Bill loved sports and was a loyal Chicago Fan with his favorite teams being the White Sox, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. A visitation will be Monday, June 10, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm and then a Celebration of Life Service will be at 10 on Tuesday June 11, 2019 all at the Glasford Baptist Church. Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral home in Pekin is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Peoria Rescue Ministries or Glasford Baptist Church. Words of comfort can be shared with the family at www.davisonfultonwoolsey.com.

Dr. Harris was an amazing, genuine, wonderful man. Whenever i visited his office we chatted about life and his family (I went to school with Tyler). My heart is with all of his family and friends, there are so many people who are affected by the loss of this kind and wonderful man. Rest in peace William Harris.

My heart goes out to all of you. Kim I never met you but heard of you often as Bill and I chatted as I visited the office for my dental work. I was Bills Dads patient and then his for all these years. I am so sad to hear he is not with us here anymore but so thankful to know he is with Jesus, but that doesn't make up for the fact that you will miss him so here. He was more than a dentist to me...many years ago we used to take him fishing at Cilco lakes and his son too. We became friends, good memories of who could catch the biggest fish. He was a dear friend and as the years rolled by we also became a brother and sister in Christ. His mission ministry extended far and wide....he was such a help to me as I returned periodically from mission work in South Africa , doing some of my dental work free gratis. I always looked forward to catching up, we talked of many things...our faith, politics, the end times, our families, it was fun to hear him laugh about how we were aging...Always before I left the office he would share any prayer requests he had....the sale of your house etc. I can't say enough what his friendship has meant to me. I will continue to hold you and all his family up in prayer. May God hold you in his everlasting loving arms and strengthen and comfort you in theses days to come. Grieving with you all, Jody Eaker

To Scott, all the Harris clan and extended family, I'm deeply saddened to learn of Bill's passing. Although not having seen Bill for a long time, I remember him as always inspiring those around him. When we were trying to win our first varsity football game in 5 years, after EP had scored first, Bill returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. That sparked us and we went on to win. It was like winning the super bowl. Bill lived a life of service. May the memories of Bill comfort you in the days ahead. God bless the Harris family.

I was stunned and saddened with this news. I'm a longtime patient as well as my late-parents.
My final visit was scheduled right before he was scheduled to retire. Bill did most of my
restorative work thru the years and such a masterful job every time. A terrific dentist
and all around good guy. I'll sure miss him. Thoughts are with you all.

My sincere condolences to Bill’s family and friends. I first met Bill as a freshman and like most became instant friends. He was always smiling and friendly to all. I pray all of you will be comforted by the Lord and your precious memories of Bill. 🙏

My late husband and I became patients of Dr. Harris in 1984. When my husband was dying from bile duct cancer in 2005, he began to experience mouth pain on a Friday. I called Dr. Harris. Since Ross was unable to leave the house, Dr. Harris came to the house on a Saturday morning to see what relief he could provide. His kindness and caring have never been forgotten. Thank you Dr. Harris for being a wonderful dentist and a wonderful human being.
