Duretta Lorean Greer

Born October 31, 1939 in Virgie, Kentucky to Robert Lee and June Frances (Miller) Newsome, she married H. Randall “Randy” Greer on June 24, 1961 in Virgie, Kentucky. They made their home in Pekin in 1969 and were married 62 years. He died May 25, 2023 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bobby Newsome, Don Newsome, and Ronald Newsome and one sister, Delores Tackett.

Surviving are one daughter, Suzi Greer of Pekin; one son, Charlie (Holly) Greer of Brimfield; five grandchildren, Mickey (Kayla) Greer of Mesa, Arizona, Maranda (Wyatt) Perides of Nephi, Utah, Taylor (Luke) Swedeen of Peoria, Adam (Emma) Greer of Germantown Hills and Carter Greer of Brimfield and six great-grandchildren, Oakley, Molly, Jolene, Myles, Wyla and Remy.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she was former church trustee and enjoyed participating in Bible studies. Duretta loved spending time with her family and practicing her faith.

She also loved gardening, reading, and working on her puzzle books. Duretta was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Duretta was an account specialist for National Garages in Peoria for more than 25 years, which is now known as Heartland Parking.

Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. Pastor Sean Peters and Pastor Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also one half hour before the funeral at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
