PEORIA ~ Evelyn Violet Ross, 86, of Lewisville, TX, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at Vista Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Lewisville, TX. She was formerly of Peoria and Port St. Lucie, FL.Born April 7, 1923 in Peoria to Harry E. and Viola Elizabeth (Gomes) Marshall, she married John Phillip Ross on Jan. 14, 1944 in Roundwood, TX. He died August 31, 1977 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Janet Carol Ross and one sister, Myrtle Schrock.Surviving are one son, Donald P. (Nancy) Ross of Lewisville, TX and three sisters, Mildred E. Schwartz, Virginia J. Riggenbach and Lois M. Brown, all of Pekin.Evelyn worked as an operating room and recovery room nurse at Proctor Hospital in Peoria for many years, retiring in 1975.She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed artwork and oil painting and formerly enjoyed swimming.Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.
