

Born on January 4, 1934, in Putnam County, Tennessee, to Cassie and Mirtie (Craven) Bumbalough, he married Cynthia Jean Henry on August 5, 1954, in Rossville, Georgia.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years; three children, Philip (Sharie) Bumbalough of Metamora, Melanie Russell of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Stephen Bumbalough of Tucson, Arizona; one grandson, Perry Russell; and two great-granddaughters, Farrah Russell and Hadley Blankenship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Marcum, Carlos, Dewey, and Verd Bumbalough and two sisters, Opal Duncan and Gladys Simmons.
Floyd was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a radioman in the wilds of Alaska and had many stories of his adventures there.
He worked as an electrician at Caterpillar, Inc. for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He was a proud member of UAW Local 974 in East Peoria.
Floyd was a skilled woodworker who took great pride in crafting furniture, keepsakes, and practical items for family and friends. His attention to detail and craftsmanship were evident in every project he undertook, whether it was a finely carved rocking chair or expertly crafted cabinetry.
A true son of Tennessee, he had a deep connection to the land and cherished the time he spent on his family farm, where he grew up. Whether tending to the land, working with his hands, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the countryside, Floyd found peace and fulfillment in farm life.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Floyd obtained his private pilot’s license at the age of 50. He spent many years soaring through the skies as a member of the Bradley Flying Club, finding joy and freedom in flight.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Paul Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Board Valley Cemetery in Sparta, Tennessee.
