

Born October 29, 1951 in Peoria to Richard and Ruth (Harness) Severns, he married Jae Song on June 26, 1972 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Susan (Craig) Gray of Cleveland, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Phillips of Creve Coeur; and two brothers, Richard "Bud" (Glenda) Severns of Sunnyland and Danny (Sherry) Severns of East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Severns; one brother, Harold; and one sister, Mary Cogdill.
Gary worked for Caterpillar, Inc. as a safety coordinator and supervisor of the paint line for 38 years, retiring in 2010.
He loved baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Peoria Chiefs fan. He got to throw out the first pitch at a Peoria Chief's Caterpillar Night game. He designed the artwork on the Caterpillar dozer that was sent to help clean up the Twin Towers after 9/11.
His visitation wil be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. There will be no services. Cremation rites were accorded.
Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
