Born February 9, 1937 in South Pekin to Albert and Mary (Morris) Sevier, he married Mary Pauline Drury on July 6, 1958 in Pekin. She died on February 28, 1997. He later married LaVetta (DeBoer) Kramer on April 30, 1999 in Groveland. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Lynne (Kerry) Moore of The Villages, Florida; one son, Thomas Sevier of Deerfield Beach, Florida; one stepdaughter, Terri (Thomas) Olesen of Camas, Washington; one stepson, Timothy (Jennifer) Kramer of Lakewood, Colorado; one step granddaughter, Amanda Olesen of Camas, Washington; one sister-in-law, Mary Sevier of Pekin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and five brothers.
Gary was a 1955 graduate of Pekin Community High School.
He worked at Quaker Oats in Pekin from 1955 to 1967 and then worked at Caterpillar, Inc. in Morton from 1967 until his retirement in 1996.
He was a former member of South Pekin Congregational Church then attended Second Reformed Church in Pekin for 20 years until it closed. He last attended the Congregational United Church of Christ in Pekin. Gary was a longtime member of Second Reformed’s dartball team. He had also enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing and traveling. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Illini fan.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Judy Steger Kennedy will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
