Born October 11, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to George and Leona (Pegelow) Milaccio, he married Gloria Jean Galler on June 7, 1952 in San Diego, California, while serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was attached to the Service and Supply Division Headquarters Battalion at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Gloria preceded him in death on February 23, 1999. He later married Sue A. (Daley) Morsch on May 16, 2009 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Paula Jean (Dennis) Hoag of Monica; two sons, Mark Alan Milaccio and Jay Lee (Barb) Milaccio, both of Peoria; three grandchildren, Casey (Megan) Hoag of Elkhart, Karen (Adam) Schrek of Canada and Savannah Milaccio of Peoria and three great-grandchildren, Henry Hoag, Charlotte Schrek, and Sydney Schrek.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffrey George Milaccio on July 9, 1992 and one sister, Betty Jane Schneider.
George attended the University of Wisconsin/Milwaukee Extension and Milwaukee School of Engineering after graduating for Rufus King High School.
He started his work career as a clerk with the Milwaukee branch of the National/U.S.Radiator Corp. He was transferred to the Chicago office and worked as an outside salesman covering the Central Illinois territory. After a merger with Crane Company he became the territory manager for Crane Company plumbing and heating division. In 1961, he started his own manufacturer’s rep sales agency representing John J. Nexbitt Company of Philadelphia, Penn., and later on adding more products to sell to HVAC contractors, serving mainly the institutional markets of schools, colleges, universities, prions, hospitals, etc. Through the years every member of his family worked in the business and made significant contributions to its success and longevity. His son, Jay, continues to work in the industry at Bornquist.
He was a member of Limestone American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville and Elks Lodge 20 in Peoria. He formerly traveled with Elderhostel and was involved with WTVP. He was past president of the AARP Peoria North Chapter, a former treasurer for the Peoria Senior Shuffleboard group and a retired member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He also was formerly active with the River City Health Club, Chillicothe Sports Club, Peoria Historical Society, Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences, Friends of Peoria Library.
He was a member of St. John’s (Sand Prairie) Lutheran Church in rural Green Valley and a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Chris Sansom will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. Monday at Mount Hawley Cemetery in Peoria, with military rites accorded by the United States Marine Corps.
