

Born September 4, 1922 in Eureka to Frederick and Lydia E. (Berger) Vollmer, he married Cleo Bernice Collins on April 8, 1946. She died March 1, 1988 in Kingston Mines. He was also preceded in death by two infant sons, one grandson, one step-grandson, nine brothers (Bill, Carl, Ben, Wilbur, Louie, Otto, Arthur, and two in infancy), and two sisters (Clara and Dorothy).
Surviving are four daughters, Wilma M. (Richard) Ball of Banner, Gloria J. (Ronald) Allen of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Georgianna K. (Eugene) Welker of Canton, Melva L. (Rick) Foust of Green Valley; one son, John R. Vollmer of Kingston Mines; one step-daughter, Dorothy June Culshaw of Rogers, Arkansas; twenty-five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A United States veteran of World War II, he served from December 12, 1942 to November 19, 1945. He attained the rank of staff sergeant.
George worked for Kingston River Terminal in Kingston Mines for 28 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Glasford American Legion Post #35.
George enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, gardening, canning, and visiting with his friends. He also had been a commercial fisherman.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2006at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. The Rev. Paul Oedewaldt will officiate. Burial will be in Kingston Mines Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded.
