

Born January 10, 1956 in Peoria to parents Ralph and Betty Shoemaker, he was a lifelong resident of the area.
Greg graduated from Illini Bluffs High School in Glasford, before earning his degree in computer science. He joined the United States Air Force and honorably served four years, where he specialized in maintaining and managing computer systems, aligning with his passion for technology.
Professionally, Greg dedicated many years to OSF Healthcare, where he was instrumental in maintaining the computer systems vital to the organization's operations. His career was marked by a deep commitment to integrating technology with healthcare services, enhancing efficiency and care.
Beyond his professional life, Greg was a lover of computers, technology, and fantasy worlds, notably the realms of "Lord of the Rings." His interests were not confined to the digital world. He was also an adventurous spirit, often seen riding his motorcycle or driving his hot cars. Greg's love for auctions and firearms spoke to his diverse and vibrant hobbies, many of which he shared with his daughter, instilling in her a deep appreciation for imaginative worlds.
Greg was beloved, survived by his devoted wife, Mera Caya Shoemaker of Leyte, Philippines; a loving daughter, Haylee (Clint) Prather of Eureka; one step-daughter, Queenie Caya of Leyte, Philippines; two grandsons, Roman Prather and Branch Prather, both of Eureka; two sisters, Jill (Jay) Arnold of Peoria and Joy (Michael) Vallosio of Mapleton; one half-sister, Jann (Scott) Baker of Belleville; one half-brother, George (Gail) Sebree; one half- sister in law, Margo Sebree and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Betty Shoemaker and half-brother, Steve Sebree.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Jay Arnold will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Scott Baker will officiate the graveside service. Military rites will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Burial will be at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. A meal will be served at The Cross Baptist Church in Pekin following the graveside service. All are invited.
Greg’s life will be celebrated and remembered for his profound impact on his family, his service to his country, and his contributions to the field of healthcare technology.
