

PEKIN ~ Gregory Michael Williams, 54, of 1816 Valencia Place, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.Born June 20, 1953 in Pekin to Francis Edwin and Charlotte Imogene (McLaughlin) Williams, he married Mona Rae Righi on January 4, 1975 in Pekin. She survives.Also surviving are his mother of rural Manito, two sons, Joshua Williams of Peoria and Aaron Williams of Pekin; and two brothers, Brian (Georgia) Williams of Wassau, Wisconsin and Randall (Lori) Williams of Pekin.He was preceded in death by his father.In 1978, Greg graduated cum laude from Bradley University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. He also earned an Associates degree in Accounting from Illinois Central College. He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi and the Eta Kappa Nu and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Societies.Greg worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in engineering and marketing in the electric power division since 1978, last working in June 2006.He attended Bradley Epworth United Methodist Church in Peoria, where he ran the sound system and helped with the group dinners for the college members.Greg was an avid reader, a hopeful woodworker and he loved the Lord. His wife, Mona, believes he was the kindest man she had ever known.His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2007at First Assembly of God in Pekin. The Rev. Thomas Eckhardt will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2007 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery in rural Manito.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given for the establishment of the Gregory M. Williams Memorial Scholarship to be used for Midwest Central High School graduates studying engineering at Bradley University.
