
PEKIN – Helen Dorothy Hagen, 92, of Pekin, passed away at 7:27 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. She was formerly of DeKalb. She was the daughter of Melvin and Anna (Nelson) Knutson.
Helen was married to the late Otto C. Hagen on Feb. 6, 1945, in Plainfield; he preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1996.
Helen was a bookkeeper at First National Bank, a secretary for State Farm Insurance, and a clerk at Northern Illinois University. She was a charter member of the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary, a member of First United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Barb City Manor. Before coming to DeKalb, Helen lived in Rockford and Austin, Texas.
Survivors include son, Gregory (Carol) Hagen of Charlottesville, VA; twin daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Lee of Boiling Springs, PA, Laureen (William) Allison of East Peoria; six grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Valentine, John (Laura) Allison, Jennifer Lee, Erik Hagen, Kristi Hagen and Alexander Hagen; four great-grandchildren, Nathan Valentine, Logan Valentine, Daniel Allison and Charlotte Allison; sister, Shirley Alioto; brother, Robert Knutson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Otto; sisters, Arlie, Irma, Ruby and Burnette; and brothers, Leaman, Orvin, Archie, Truman, Manley, Maynard and Wesley.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, with the Rev. Jon Hutchison officiating. The visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Saratoga Cemetery in Morris.
Memorials can be made to the family to be established at a later date.
