
His spirit was released from the worn out shell of his body and is now exploring the universe.
Surviving are one sister, Sandy (Tom) Groff of Bartonville and several nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Harris.
Since Herb’s death, his two brothers, Jim Harris and Zelvin Mitchell have both passed away.
He was born on January 6, 1946 in Chicago to Helen and James Harris.
Herb was drafted in the United States Army in 1967 to serve his time as a teletype operator during the Vietnam War.
He was employed as an expert diesel mechanic for over 20 years.
Herb had a love for the outdoors, fishing and just being with family and friends.
He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR racing.
Burial of cremated remains will be in Penn Ridge Cemetery on Smithville Road at 10:30 on Saturday, April 12, 2014. There will be a Celebration of Life service at VFW in Bartonville at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Everyone who remembers Herb is asked to celebrate his life in their own way by raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory. This would be quite appropriate.
