PEKIN ~ James Lang “Jim” Bowman, Jr., 83, of Pekin, passed away at 7:36 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born January 23, 1937 in Pekin to James Lang and Eva (Peplow) Bowman, Sr., he married Karen Rochelle Smith on July 20, 1958 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, James M. (Karen J.) Bowman of Spring Lake; one daughter, Diana (Keith) Stevens of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren, Michael Bowman, Darius Jones, Christopher (Katie) Curtis and Richard W., Amber and Karrie Bruder; 13 great-grandchildren and two siblings, Roberta Kumpf and Darrell Bowman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronnie Bowman.

Jim was a member of the Air National Guard and was very proud of his country.

He had worked as an ironworker out of Local 112 in East Peoria from 1956 until 2001.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Jim was a member of Duck’s Unlimited and Tremont Sportsman Club. He had a passion for guns and loved to shoot. Jim also enjoyed flying planes and traveling.

His visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where a private funeral will follow. Guidelines regarding social distancing and wearing of masks will be required. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
