

He was born May 23, 1944 in Pekin to Joseph and Betty (May) Lucera. His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Beth Lucera of Chicago and Kathryn “Kate” (Andre) Thompson of Peoria; two grandsons, Ian Lucera and Jaycik Lucera; and one sister, Joella Lucera of Pekin.
A United States Army veteran of the Vietnam era, he served from 1967 to 1969.
Jim received both his bachelor and master degrees from Illinois State University in Normal.
Jim worked for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for over 18 years, retiring in 2003 as a discrimination investigator at the Peoria OSHA Office. Previously, he was employed by the North Pekin/Marquette Heights School District #102 as a teacher at Marquette Elementary School and later as the dean of students at Georgetowne Middle School, both in Marquette Heights. He also had worked at Caterpillar, Inc.
He was a member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916 in Pekin.
Jim enjoyed being with family and friends, especially his grandsons. He loved movies, sports, and attending trivia nights in the Pekin area. He was a St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball fan.
His visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A celebration of his life will follow at 2 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the service.
