

Born May 30, 1940 in Galesburg to William G. and Ardyth L. (Luce) Swearingen, he married Kay Rollene Daniel on February 9, 1968 in Bloomington. She died January 31, 2003 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are four daughters, Yvonne R. (Don) Handzo and Jodi L. Smith, both of Bloomington, Lori H. (Mark) Bouslog of Normal, and Jami R. Mitchell of Colfax; one son, Daniel L. Gaylord of Bloomington; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois May (Hans) Schaefer of Green Valley, Arizona and Doris R. (Marvin) Minten of Parker, Colorado; and one brother, Walter S. (Joy) Swearingen of Carthage.
A United States Navy veteran, he served from 1960 to 1964.
Jim worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 ½ years, retiring June 1, 2001 as an electrician in Mapleton.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Pekin and the United Auto Workers Local 974 in East Peoria. He was a friend of Bill W.
Jim enjoyed working outdoors, watching NASCAR, and going to the races.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Al Lynn will officiate. Graveside services will be at noon Wednesday at Park Lawn Cemetery in Danvers, where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
