Jay M Snyder

Jay was born October 11, 1945 in Pekin. His parents were Eugene Howard and Lavanchalee "Jakie" (Gates) Snyder. Jay married Sandra Sue Rodgers on October 30, 1966 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jason (Denise) Snyder and Paul (Jennie) Snyder, both of Pekin; one honorary son, Larrie (Theresa) Counterman of Pekin; eight grandchildren, Andrew Hersemann, Mike Hersemann, Dan Hersemann, Chauncey (Jen) Hersemann, Curtis Noe, Alyssa Noe, Dana Sue-Carol Snyder, and Damien Jay Snyder; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella Hersemann, Hailey Hersemann, and Karter Chauncey Hersemann; three brothers, Gaylord Stinehart and Raymond Stinehart, both of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Larry (Norma) Watson of Pekin; and five sisters, Joan Bowen of Pekin, Donna Yavorsky and Deanna Fantor, both of Saint Louis, Missouri, Diana (Darrel) Tennis of Liberty, and Linda (Gary) Long of Elburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Dana Lynn Snyder in 1969.

He was a 1963 graduate of Pekin Community High School.

Jay worked for Witco in Mapleton for 30 years, retiring in 1995 from the metal organic plant. Following retirement, he worked at Multi-Ad in Peoria for 10 years in computer tech support.

He was a member of Illinois MENSA and the Pekin Moose Family Center #916, where he was the newsletter editor. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Elk's Lodge. Jay was involved in many activities with his sons including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He had served as a Boy Scout and Cub Scout Master. He also had been a football coach for Pekin JFL.

Jay was very outgoing and loved life. He enjoyed bicycling.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor David Wilder will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2009at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
