He was born September 26, 1951 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to Clyde and Christine (Nowell) Pettie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are two children, Corey (Tricia) Pettie of Pekin and Jera Pettie of Poca, West Viginia; four grandchildren, Drake Pettie, Cori Lynn Pettie, Spencer Pettie and Cash Roberts and two sisters, Judy (Johnny) Hollingsworth of Philadelphia, Mississippi and Lisa (Charles) Rhodes of Union, Mississippi.
Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army.
He had worked at the Terra Haute Penitentiary in Terra Haute, Indiana and he later transferred to Pekin Federal Correctional Institute.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
A graveside service will be at a later date at Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston, Mississippi.
