Born December 17, 1949 in Jacksonville to Jesse and Virginia (Herrin) Workman, he married Charlene Hamm in 1971, with whom he shared two children. He later married Dhawn Barnes in 1998, she preceded him in death in 2006.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Linda Randleman and Alice Braden; and two brothers, Wayne Workman and Warren Workman.
Surviving are his former wife and life long friend, Charlene (Terry) Harbers of Pekin; one daughter, Abbie Workman of Pekin; one son, Arron Workman of Pekin; one grandson, Jackson Workman of Pekin; one sister, Brenda Collman of Wood River and his former brother-in-law and business partner Russ (Christal) Hamm of Pekin.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Jesse had been a carpet layer, a trade which he passed on to his only son. He also co-owned Hamm’s Furniture in Pekin, where he worked from 1975 until his passing.
He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, golfing with family, sharing a beer with his friends and his most cherished time was spent with his grandson Jackson. Jesse never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
A gathering celebrating Jesse’s life will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Eagles Lodge Arie #1869 in Pekin.
