Born July 8, 1950 in Tokyo, Japan, he was the son of George John and Myrtle Ann (Hopper) Burk. He married Susan Lynn Kendall on July 4, 1976 in Pekin. They later divorced but maintained a close friendship.
Surviving are two daughters, Rachael Ann (Josh) Welker of Mason, Ohio and Joslyn Mary (Andrew) Kahn of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and four grandchildren, Isaac John Welker, Evelyn Nellie Welker, Aretha Marie Kahn and Melody Ann Kahn.
His parents, both veterans of the military, preceded him in death.
A retired member of the National Automatic Sprinkler Industry Union, John worked hard and enjoyed a long career, serving over 45 years as a member of Local 669 in Peoria. In retirement, he worked part time at Lincoln Office.
John was a sincerely devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and equally passionate about the Chicago Bears. He loved watching movies, listening to music and playing guitar. John was handy with tools, could fix almost anything and had an inviting sense of humor.
He adored his family and enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, who will miss him dearly. His daughters and their husbands will miss him too.
A celebration of life service and gathering will be announced at a later date. Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Memorial contributions will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
