

Born August 29, 1955 in Mayfield, KY to D. Gene and Myra (Prince) Moffitt, he married Barbara N. Roberts on December 21, 1974 in North Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Justin (Elizabeth Cecil) Moffitt of Pekin; one daughter, Megan (Shane) Johnson of Groveland; four grandchildren, Wesley Moffitt, Marshal Moffitt, Addison Johnson and Noah Johnson; one brother, Tom (Jean) Moffitt of Marysville, OH; three sisters-in-law, Pat (Bob) Springman, of Pekin, Charlotte (Tom) Rausch of Hamburg, PA and Marsha Roberts of Marquette Heights. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, Curt (Cathy) Moffitt of Springfield, Ryan (Kelly) Moffitt, Spencer Moffitt, both of Ohio, Aimee (David) Sarchet, Scott Roberts, both of Pekin, Andrew (Melinda) Springman of Florida, Susan Springman of Washington, Sheri (Matt) Hoffert, Stephen (Amber) Rausch, both of Pennsylvania, Melanie (Brad) Curry of Plainfield and Stacie (David) Moeller of Normal and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Tom Prince; stepmother, Alice Moffitt and his brother-in-law, Glenn Roberts.
John retired from Caterpillar, Inc. with 35 years of service as a welder and safety officer. He also served as a police officer in the area including, Marquette Heights, Delavan and Green Valley, where he served as Chief of Police for many years. He previously was a member of the Pekin Police Department Auxiliary. His retirement job was working for Old Heritage Landscaping in Pekin and for the City of Pekin as a school bus driver. He also had a small woodworking business, “You Woodn’t Believe It.”
John was always on the go, always friendly and was very outgoing. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, being outdoors, especially working on landscaping and in his flower gardens and spending time with his grandchildren.
He attended First Baptist Church in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Pekin. Pastor Brad Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
