He was born on August 23, 1960, in Pekin, a son of Robert L. and Yvonne Kay (Ashby) Armstrong. He married Denise Fouts on January 2, 1998, in Pekin. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2001.
Johnny was also preceded by his father, one son, Johnny Vaughn Armstrong, Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Yvonne Armstrong of Pekin; one daughter, Leia Armstrong of Pekin; three grandchildren, Jayden Diegel, Kaylee Bolson and Ethan Armstrong; one great-grandson, Jasper Armstrong and three sisters, Karen (Brett) Smith, Cindy (Jeff) Miller and Robin Young.
Johnny enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
