

PEKIN ~ Joseph W. Cross, 85, of Pekin, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 at his residence.
Born September 27, 1925 in Lincoln County, Tennessee to Morris C. and Annie Pearl (Lewter) Cross, he married Margie Marie Walden on November 27, 1948 in Madison County, Alabama. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert W. (Kim) Cross of Pekin and Gregory J. (Terri) Cross of Pekin; three grandsons, Adam, Ryan and Kyle; one step grandson, Chad; two step-great-grandchildren, Cameron and Chase; two brothers, Billy (Becky) Cross of Mississippi and Charles (Lynn) Cross of Indiana and four sisters, Martha Black of Ohio, Faye (Wilburn) Mann, Geneva (Joe) Edwards and Joyce (Willie) Smith, all of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Joe was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He worked as a truck driver for 26 years, retiring in 1985.
He was member of Pekin Church of Christ.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Evangelist Larry Curry will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
