Joseph D Menne

Born October 7, 1938 in Canton to Joseph L. and Margaret D. (Savoia) Menne, he married Stella Mae O’Brien on April 1, 1967 in Canton.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Kevin Menne, Dwayne A. (Jean) Menne and JoEllen (Randy) Adkins, all of Pekin, David A. (Kelly) Menne of Houston, Texas, Michael Dwayne Menne of Peoria, Patricia Headen of Jacksonville, Lisa (Jim) Hoff of California and Susan (Greg) Hensler of Canton; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James A. (Sandy) Menne of Cuba; and two sisters, Margaret (John) Swalec and Mary Jane (Paul) Franciskovich, both of Cuba.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joseph attended St. David schools for six years and later moved to Canton, where he graduated in 1956.  He attended Rollo College of Mines and Metallurgy in Missouri and one year at Bradley University in Peoria.  He later went through a two year apprentice course at Caterpillar, Inc. and went into tooling machine design, and later into management.  In 1978, he moved up to Superintendent of Skilled Trades in East Peoria before retiring in 1984 due to illness.

He helped start the first Canton Jaycees as the external Vice President.  He had been a member of Toastmasters for two years and a Boy Scouts of America Scout Master for seven years.

In 1968, the American Red Cross issued Joseph a Certificate of Recognition for Extraordinary Personal Action after he saved another man's life.

He was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.  Joseph was always ready with a smile and a joke to everyone he met.  He will be sadly missed.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.  The Rev. Lloyd Brock will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
